Polymorph Art Gallery - Curator

nel.jpgHi, my name is Nel Wolf and I curate and manage the art gallery at Polymorph. I work closely with the Polymorph staff and various lovely volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the space, however my main focus is sourcing and curating the works in each exhibition.

I stepped up to the role of curator here in September of 2009 and was immediately enthralled by the diversity of the space and the commitment of the Polymorph team. Polymorph art gallery was originally established by Grace Kingston in 2008 and it is only due to her determination that it still exists today. Polymorph art gallery now runs as a successful ARI and I have been striving to maintain this status and further publicise the possibilities of this space throughout the artistic community.

My main goals as curator of Polymorph art gallery are firstly to create an interesting and unique space for emerging artists to display their works, secondly to explore the diversities of the space with different types of art and a wide spectrum of customers and finally to expand the gallery's identity and have it reach out to a wider community.

I'm currently completing my own Bachelor of Fine Arts  at the College of Fine Arts in Paddington.  My training so far has entailed a range of different practices from printmedia to painting to jewellery. My major and area of interest is in the jewellery, metal work and object area of fine arts but of course I do not limit myself in any way to these.

logoart.jpgAs an artist myself I believe I have an extensive understanding of the needs and expectations of exhibiting artists. Namely that work will be handled professionally, installed competently and exhibited appropriately.

Polymorph art gallery is a unique space and offers unique opportunities to those who choose to exhibition with us. We are artist run and therefore are open to exhibition ideas that many other art galleries would reject, we advertise widely and we enjoy a healthy number of sales. All of these things can be attributed to the business environment of the piercing studio and the commitment of its staff. However it is crucial that artists understand that the aim of the gallery is to be a platform for the exposure of emerging artists, rather then a commercial venture. I would like to encourage anyone, from novices to the formally trained, to approach Polymorph art gallery to exhibit.
